Looking Forward 2011

Are you all set to welcome the YEAR of the METAL RABBIT?

For sure, there'll be more time to list down all your new year's resolutions. But for now if you really want to get it simply started, let us begin with understanding our character the chinese way. I would take my own horoscope as an example. Here is my profile as Water OX (born: March 23, 1973) which is taken from tuvy.com. I believe this would somehow guide me to what's in store for next year  like what I did last year, I brought forth action together with prayer as powerful tools to make all things work. Finally, I had a fruitful and surpassing 2010. There is no secret formula!

My WATER OX Horoscope

Feb 6, 1913 to Jan 25, 1914
Feb 3, 1973 to Jan 22, 1974

Oxen in China are put on a pedestal. So it goes with Oxen people. Oxen are bright, peace-loving, often easy-going and trusting. But, on the other hand, they can also be stubborn, methodical, and fiercely competitive, with, shudder, fierce tempers to boot. Oxen are natural born mentors and life is filled with examples of people who have gone on to great success because of them. Mentally and physically alert to the point of genius, many Oxen belong to Mensa. They can create the most imposing structures, magnificent sculpture, and homes. They respond like poets to the beauties of nature and of solitude. Oxen are unique, they are The Flower that bursts through the crack of cement.

Bird's Nest Soup and Bean Curd are among the keys to good health!!

With Water Oxen you never have to sit around listening to boring lecturing and long-winded yada-yada. Through quiet self-assurance, they simply carry on with life, setting examples by deed, never by words. They make extraordinary leaders. They inspire others to do their best, through kind patience, knowing that even waiters finally come to those who wait. Realistic and open-minded about the foibles of others, they are rewarded with unexpected surprises when people turn around and show their best attributes. Tit for tat!. Their stable careers and "living right" give them the potential to be enormously wealthy, and they frequently are. For Oxen in general, love life is somewhat of a mystery, but immensely satisfying, interwoven very nicely with contrasts of quietude and passion, solitude and togetherness.

Famous Ox People: Tung Chee-Hwa, Sukarno, Richard Burton, Napoleon, Charlie Chaplin, Peter Sellers, Margaret Mead, Jawaharlal Nehru, Eisaku Sato, Princess Diana

and lastly, I firmly believe, ME.

Magic of The Little Prince

"Come back after you read this book," my Professor in Advanced Philo told me.  "You will take an exam after." he added.

I was very skeptical of what this book has to do with  me. Except for being the major requirement in one of my minor subjects in the graduate school, I really couldn't understand why I have to read this 27-chaptered novellete. With all the rush tasks, work overload and time constraints, this is really not a perfect time to savor a good literature. Yet, there is another problem, there's just one copy in the library and it's not allowed to be taken home. One more thing-- the book looks very OLD and I'm sure there'll be a scarcity of copy on the nearest bookstores... what shall I do then?

I have no choice but to find ways to unlock this difficulty. I ended up searching this book on the net. The first encounter began with the book's author- Antoine de Saint-Exupery... who is he?

A pilot, a journalist, a writer. Not to mention, a military man. The author's profile is quite interesting! That made me go on browsing for additional information. The novel was created sometime in 1943 one year before his death. The Little Prince is the most well-known of his novels. It appears to be a simple children's tale, with simple illustrations, but you'll see more than that when you read it. According to one interpretation, it is a deeply moving book written in riddles laced with philosophy and poetic metaphors.

"So, what could I get from this book except for a possible A grade for my subject requirement?,"  I asked myself. There's no other way but to find out.

At first I thought I would take the sacrifice reading it through the net. Thanks God, I got an old book from a generous student Thus, I read it... chapter by chapter, page by page, word for word. Until I found myself reading  the literature over and over again...

I couldn't stop! It's irrisistible. It's amazing!
No wonder why it became the famous novel at that time.
It's keeping your soul connected with what you read... with what you've realized!
It's no child's story. It's a children's book intended for thinking adults!

You would appreciate the philosophy behind each line.
The logic behind each metaphor.
The reality behind each magic.
And that truly is- the MAGIC of THE LITTLE PRINCE!

Here are some famous lines taken from the book.

"What makes the desert beautiful," says the little prince, "is that somewhere it hides a well."
  -Chapter XXIV

"You're beautiful, but you're empty.... No one could die for you".
  -Chapter XXI

"One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."
  -Chapter XXI

“Why are you drinking?” demanded the little prince.
“So that I may forget,” replied the tippler.
“Forget what?” inquired the little prince, who already felt sorry for him.
“Forget that I am ashamed,” the tippler confessed, hanging his head.
“Ashamed of what?” insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him.
“Ashamed of drinking!”

"That is the hardest thing of all. It is much harder to judge yourself than to judge others.
If you succeed in judging yourself, it's because you're truly a wise man."

"If I were to command a general to turn into a seagull, and if the general did not obey, that would not be the general's fault. It would be mine."

"Language is the source of misunderstandings."

--At the end of this reading task I said to myself, "I'm so glad to have it." My Professor just knows how to teach me what real philosophy is. Thanks to him, I met the LITTLE PRINCE! This is more than the A mark that I am expecting to get. Learning the essence of life is a great achievement. Isn't it?

By the way, I got a real A from my Prof. He gave me 1.1 which means 99% average grade for this subject! Thanks, Little Prince! Thanks, Sir Egay!

miss u!

Hello Blogger, my old friend...
I've come to talk with you again...

I'd been away for so long, took part in this beautiful creation...
but now I'm here again, let's share the joy of that experience!

How can I forget the 11th Foundation Anniversary of GC?
I left you behind like a little friend deserted in a strange island.
That's so hurting to me as far as I believe
but it took a while to make me realize
how important you are as a friend.

A part of me was left with you as I went on my journey,
but I knew that my absence has done enough for both of us to see.
I bring you now the worthwhile experience
no person could ever resist,
I hope you'll be more happy to hear all the good lessons I've learned.

  •  I couldn't find a word to tell how happy and grateful I am for those who shared in the creation of COE exhibit booth! But before its final output there were several stories untold. I can still recall the first two days of its significant series when supporters came in selfless abundance, whether through physical or monetary help they did not hesitate to partake. There were those whom I consider great few who showed me what it means to be unweary despite of the difficult task, disturbing sweat and the heat of the sun. Physical labor is not fun, for sure, but  I knew it was, because the smiles were fixed on the faces of each and everyone around.
  • The third day was even more exciting! or should I say, breath-taking?!!! Yes, I couldn't even grasp my breath for a while to sit and relax. I was so anxious of many "hows"... How should I do this... How should I do that... lingered on my mind repetitively. I didn't know what to do then, but I have a conviction that it will all be okay soon. Yeah, It has to! And it happened. The four divisions were created and each section was apparently filled with its desired exhibits. Maybe, not that much, but good enough to have it showcased on the next day. Thanks to God! And many thanks to all who patiently understood my varied moods for all day long!
  •  OPENING DAY: The day we've all been waiting for! Will somebody do me a favor? This has been my favorite line. In and outside of the classroom I hurried like a mad hunter going after its prey. I didn't know what I was really needing, but it gave me satisfaction to see that everything's in the right place, anyway, in just few hours the judging will start. Did I really accomplish my task? Hmmn... soon I'll find out!
    • At 1pm all got dressed in full costume. Everyone has been in a hurry but excited to experience the fun! The theme: Greek Mythology inspired with a little foretaste of  World Literature! Of course, I was the master-planner, who else will oppose...(laughs) but I made it very relevant to the Official Contest Agenda, that's why it was beautiful!
    •  The time moved so fast, but it was too slow for us who waited until 5 O'clock. Four hours with this costume set-up is NOT cool. Not if you've waited much longer than expected. Everyone thought it's going to be earlier. But it wasn't. Then I started being anxious, disoriented, stressed...And at the end I found myself sitting hopelessly in one side without saying a word. "This is not happening!" I thought.
    •  Then after few seconds, there came the lamplighter, the bearer of good news! I couldn't describe how much joy I felt when I heard them saying, "Andiyan na Sila!" (They are coming!) ...and everyone shouted in excitement; like ants they hurried to their different posts as we watched the judges getting near. At last, the long wait is over!
    • After the judgment time, you can see the smile in everyone's face. Lots of stories were told from anyone's experience. The experience of being part of the event. The goodness of having their share of time, talent and effort. It has paid off all the hardships, the time they invested and the hope they kept. It was a good learning experience. And I learned from it, too. Maybe now I understand how it is to be a little more patient. A little more composed. A little more trustful that I may enjoy the fruit of my labor in the sweetest experience possible. No regrets!
    • With that, we're victorious! And the rest is history.
    Special thanks to the following:

The 21 Most Beautiful People In My Eyes

They say, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." What is good to you may not be fascinating to me. But that's an old story. Beauty is a universal truth. It's a known fact. What we just have to agree is our own foretaste of what we consider beautiful. It's a personal experience. It's in the encounter.  It's in the way you feel while looking at that someone you hailed beautiful. The feeling is incomparable. The joy is relieving. When you see that someone, you know that you're convinced... beauty is beyond physical, it's an opportunity to see what others cannot see... It's a connection that binds you and that someone in a very special way.
